AMAZON AWARDED FOR DEVELOPING A POCKET SIZED DRONE : A BODYGUARD

Amazon has been awarded a patent for a pocket-sized, voice controlled drone that can be used to help police in chases, aid firefighters in tackling blazes, and even find lost children.

The unmanned aerial vehicle will have a built-in software that will allow it to understand commands spoken by a user or controls from an app, according to a United States Patent and Trademark Office filing from Tuesday.

Amazon did not mention Alexa ,but as the e-commerce giant already has experience in this technology, it could potentially build it into its drones.

The drone will have a microphone and a camera that will allow it to carry out several functions outlined by the patent including:

• Finding a lost child whereby the drone's camera will identify a person's face or perhaps a barcode printed on the kid's clothes

• Locating a vehicle when a person can't find it a parking lot by recognizing trait such as the make, model or color

• In search and rescue missions to find downed airliners, sailors or ships lost at sea

• To identify people trapped in a burning building

• Following a suspect so that a cop car could cut off the runner

• Recording stunts or other activities, effectively replacing current helmet cameras.

Qualcomm-powered 5G devices may arrive in 2018

 

 

Verizon has stated that it's aiming to implement 5G at some point in 2017, but today, a mobile chip giant has given us a more specific time frame. At the Qualcomm 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong, the company announced its very first 5G modem, the Snapdragon X50, which will support download speeds at up to 5 Gbps -- a super impressive number considering that we've only just started tapping into the Gigabit space with 4G LTE, let alone the more common 450 Mbps, 300 Mbps or even just 150 Mbps download speeds on our phones these days. 

 

Furthermore, we're told that X50-powered devices "are expected to be available during the first half of 2018." Qualcomm does stress that this modem is designed for early 5G deployments, in the sense that it's leaning more towards the experimental soft rollouts. There's also no word on the specific type of devices -- be it mobile routers or smartphones -- that the X50 will land on, so don't expect to hear any flagship product to be announced with this chip any time soon.
The whopping 5 Gbps download speed is achieved by using a generous 800 MHz bandwidth in the mmWave spectrum. While it's true that such a high frequency is limited by its penetration range, such modems and cells will make use of MIMO antenna technology with intelligent beamforming and beam tracking to bounce signal off walls, in order to go around obstacles.

Mourihno expected more from pogba

One person still missing after chemical plant explosion in Germany

One person is still missing after an explosion at chemical firm BASF's plant in the southwestern German city of Ludwigshafen that left at least two people dead.

The fire at a river harbor in the sprawling facility was extinguished on Monday night, about 10 hours after the explosion, BASF said. As of Tuesday morning, one person was still missing. Ludwigshafen fire service chief Peter Friedrich said that person is believed to be in the harbor, but it hasn't yet been possible to send in divers.

Eight people were seriously injured and another 17 had light injuries, BASF said. Two members of BASF's fire service have been confirmed dead.

Some of the injured had "very severe burns" and six of them were in intensive care, city official Dieter Feid said.

The explosion followed a fire in a pipeline between an area where liquids are unloaded from ships on the Rhine river and storage tanks. The BASF fire service had arrived at the scene when the blast occurred.

BASF said that the substances that burned in the subsequent blaze included ethylene — used in producing solvents and insulation — and propylene, used in producing car paint and adhesives.

It isn't yet clear what caused the blast.

Governor Rauf aregbesola appeals to nigerians: " lets return to when we eat our indigenous rice"

 

Governor of Osun state, Rauf Aregbesola, appealed to Nigerians while speaking at an event to mark the 2016 International Day for Eradication of Poverty in the state yesterday. to stop eating imported rice and go back to eating indigenous ones. He said ; “Rice was not a staple food in Nigeria before 1980. Ofada rice was the only rice eaten during festivities. We should return to the time when we were eating indigenous rice. We have cassava, plantain, beans and yam. We should return to the time when we were eating our indigenous foods".

The economy situation and exchange rate  makes it such that imported rice and even the one produced internally  are so expensive.Many can,t afford bag of rice. At the same time, many dont trust the rice that is claimed to be produced in nigeria due to quality factor and control.

Explosion continues as Samsung note 7 burns in phillipine

Samsung Galaxy burn issues continue to emerge in different parts of the world as a Galaxy S7 Edge burns up in the Philippines

It's been a bad time for Samsung. If they ain't as popular before , now they are especially as a result of the burns episode getting over S7

One incident as reported by inquisitr occurred in the Philippines where a woman identified as Weng Briones claims to have witnessed her Galaxy S7 Edge burn up.

According to Briones, her Samsung device caught fire while her daughter was using it
The Samsung user has since received a full refund since she did not want a replacement for the damaged one. Look at the picture below to read her experience (image credit to inquisitr)

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has since issued a recall of all Galaxy Note 7 phones in order to keep mobile users from having the same experience.

“Samsung has received 92 reports of the batteries overheating in the U.S., including 26 reports of burns and 55 reports of property damage, including fires in cars and a garage,” the recall reads.

“Consumers should immediately stop using and power down the recalled Galaxy Note7 devices purchased before September 15, 2016.”

Airlines have also taken security measures and banned Samsung users from bringing Galaxy Note 7 in a flight.

- next, you will see software update. Click on that.

- Click download and install and wait for it to be downloaded.

The size varies from 32mb to 70mb. Yours could be more than that anyway. 

Apple is doing great in discovering bugs and fixing it as early as possible. All iPhone 7 users and iOS users  should promptly update theirs.

GALAXY NOTE 7 REPLACEMENT COMES UP WEDNESDAY IN U.S

Americans who own Samsung's recalled Galaxy Note 7 smartphone will finally be able to pick up a replacement on Wednesday.

Regulators issued the recall last week after dozens of people reported that the Note 7 caught fire while charging.

The fixed phone's rollout marks the end of a costly, weeks-long nightmare for Samsung, which suspended sales of the phone Sept. 2.

The Note 7 exchange program got off to a bumpy start outside the United States on Monday. In Samsung's home market of South Korea, the program didn't attract much demand in Seoul. 

While only few were able to change theirs, many who bought online were turned down.

Note 7 users stateside have been told to pick up their free replacement from Samsung, their wireless carrier or the store where they bought the phone.

Some call it money making machine, others say it is "making many mighty". whatever the name is, have you ever asked this question: WHERE IS THE 30% INTEREST COMING FROM? Have asked the same question too. Let's find out

According to wikipedia,MMM was established in 1989 by Sergei Mavrodi, his brother Vyacheslav Mavrodi, and Olga Melnikova. The name of the company was taken from the first letters of the three founders' surnames.

It is obvious that many Nigerians are getting aware of this current Pyramid scheme trending in Nigeria called MMM Nigeria which promises 30% Return on Investment after 30 days (how on earth!!)

The business is a Pyramid/Ponzi scheme

According to financial watch, "A Ponzi scheme  is a fraudulent investment operation where the operator, an individual or organization, pays returns to its investors from new capital paid to the operators by new investors, rather than from profit earned through legitimate sources. Operators of Ponzi schemes usually entice new investors by offering higher returns than other investments, in the form of short-term returns that are either abnormally high or unusually consistent.

Initially the promoter will pay out high returns to attract more investors, and to lure current investors into putting in additional money. Other investors begin to participate, leading to a cascade effect. The “return” to the initial investors is paid out of the investments of new entrants, and not out of profits. Often the high returns encourage investors to leave their money in the scheme, with the result that the promoter does not have to pay out very much to investors; he simply has to send them statements showing how much they have earned. This maintains the deception that the scheme is an investment with high returns."

 MMM grew rapidly when launched. In February 1994, the company reported dividends of 1,000%, and started an aggressive TV ad campaign. Since the shares were not quoted on any stock exchange and the company itself determined the share price, it maintained a steady price growth of thousands of percent annually, leading the public to believe its shares were a safe and profitable

When a Ponzi scheme is not stopped by the authorities, it sooner or later falls apart for one of the following reasons (financial watch):

1. The promoter vanishes, taking all the remaining investment money.
2. Since the scheme requires a continual stream of investments to fund higher returns, once investment slows down, the scheme collapses as the promoter starts having problems paying the promised returns (the higher the returns, the greater the risk of the Ponzi scheme collapsing). •  On July 22, 1994, the police closed the offices of MMM for tax evasion. For a few days the company attempted to continue the scheme, but soon ceased operations. At that point, Invest-Consulting, one of the company's subsidiaries, owed more than 50 billion rubles in taxes (USD 26 million), and MMM itself owed between 100 billion and 3 trillion rubles to the investors (from USD 50 million to USD 1.5 billion). In the aftermath at least 50 investors, having lost all of their money, committed suicide.August 1994 Mavrodi was arrested for tax evasion.

• Mavrodi was believed to move from russia to U.s after going bankrupt.  With the help of a distant relative he started Stock Generation Ltd., another pyramid scheme based around trading non-existent companies' stocks in a form of the "stock exchange game" on the company's site, stockgeneration.com. Despite a bold-letter warning on the main page that the site was not a real stock exchange, between 20,000 and 275,000 people, according to various estimates, fell for the promised 200% returns and lost their money. According to U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, losses of victims were at least USD 5.5 million

•  Mavrodi was found and arrested in 2003. He was released on May 22, 2007. He later went on to creating yet another pyramid scheme called MMM-2011.

•  The MMM scandal led to increased regulation of the Russian stock market, but the legacy of the fraud led many to become extremely suspicious of any joint stock companies.

•  In 2015 MMM began operating in South Africa with the same business model as MMM-2011, claiming a "30% per month" return through a "social financial network". The group was identified as a possible pyramid scheme by the National Consumer Commission and accounts of clients were later frozen by Capitec Bank

•  In 2016, MMM launched a website targeting the Nigerian audience

•  In January 2016 the Chinese government banned MMM on the grounds that it is a pyramid scheme, (Ponzi scheme), and it is not registered in the country (and as a fraudulent scheme cannot be registered)

Why do FINANCIAL WATCH believe that MMM Nigeria is a pyramid/Ponzi scheme?

• The promise of a 30 % ROI is outrageous and not in terms with standard rates of investment (Example one makes a profit of 30,000 naira for every 100,000 naira invested in the system in 30 days , excluding additions that comes from referral, signing up and testimonial bonuses) 
• No legal financial company can offer you that investment plan.Such “Return on Investments” been paid to older clients are money received from new clients and the circle continues, the 30% is never made from company profits. That is why there is aggressive ad campaign from the company(MMM Nigeria) paying massive additional bonuses to recruiters that they call guiders to conduct seminars and deceive gullible Nigerians into joining the scheme to keep the system alive.
• The CEO of the company(MMM Nigeria) Seigei Marvrodi is a convicted fraudster and had run similar fraud schemes in Russia where hedefrauded investors over a hundred billion dollars.

Solar eclipse to occur in Nigeria September 1 2016 . What you should know..

The National Space Research and Development Agency (NSRDA), has announced that Nigerians will witness a solar eclipse between 7:15 am and 10:03 am on Thursday, September 1, 2016, though with slight variations in actual timing across the country

Here is the statement from Head of Media and Corporate Communications of NSRDA, Dr Felix Ale.

"Lagos will experience its first contact with the eclipse at 7:15 am with a maximum eclipse at 8:32 am and ending at about 10:00am. We advise the public not to panic or attach any spiritual connotation to the eclipse, as it is a natural occurrence which had been predicted by science.

In Abuja, there will be a partial eclipse with an obscurity of 60% and the first contact will be at about 7:17am, with maximum eclipse at 8:32am and the last at 10:00am."

We are also advised not to use our naked eyes to observe the eclipse. It could be damaging

Barcelona signs Paco alacer

After so much pushing and searching.Barcelona finally got a striker. The striker arrives from Valencia and signs a five year contract with the blaugranes

FC Barcelona’s latest signing Paco Alcácer,previously at Valencia CF, comes on a five year contract. FC Barcelona will pay Valencia 30 million plus 2 million in variables for the 23 year old player.

The buy-out clause in Alcácer’s contract is set at 100 million euros. The striker has passed his medical and has now signed a contract with FC Barcelona, will be presented once he returns from international duty with the Spanish national team after having joined up with the squad on Monday. 

Alcácer becomes the first striker signed this summer by Luis Enrique’s team following defenders Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne, midfielders André Gomes and Denis Suárez and goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen to Camp Nou. 

So Luis Enrique finally has so many options to build a strong team. I guess they are prepared now.

Drake's selfie with Rihanna. Could that be a proposal?

Rihanna was honored at VMAs with a vanguard award together with the award she received from her "tuexo-clad Toronto boo and performed four separate times. Not surprising, Drake was around to show his support and celebrate together with Rihanna.

There usually is an after party after the VMA, but it really didn't look like both Drake and Rihanna stayed for that. Most likely, according to UPROXX, they headed straight back to Toronto to have some time together

Looking at the picture above (credit to UPROXX), you could notice the tower (Canadian national tower)well  captured in the setting. "Drake perches on that tower for his adorable half-face selfie",UPROXX reports.

Drake has this to say: "This is a night for us all to be thankful for what you have done for us!. You have affected so many of our lives in the best way possible. Tonight we celebrate you! @badgalriri".

Well, everyone felt Drake was gonna propose to Rihanna on stage that night but that didn't happen..So curious!!. Let's see how that goes but   I smell something.. something really big.
