Google to reduce updates of apps size by 50%...saving your data

When you have an android smartphone stocked with apps, it is expected to update those apps in order to fix bugs, increase security, add some items and so on..Data is required to carry out this updates.. If you sit and calculate how much data you spend in updating apps on Google play store, if converted to cash, it could pay your babes' t-fare and lunch.. Wifi could be free in some countries, but Nigeria is an exception..you need to spend to update

Fortunately for everyone, especially for Nigerians, It is as if your  worries and concerns have been heard by Google.. A new algorithm from Google now makes it possible by reducing updates size, patches, by 50%..so that means if you spend 160mb to update marvel champions, now you can save 80mb or less.

According to SWE Google play, Anthony Morris, he explains: "For approximately 98% of app updates from play store, only changes to ask files are downloaded and merged with existing files, reducing the size of updates. We recently rolled out a delta algorithm, bsdiff, that further reduces patches by up to 50% or more compared to the previous algorithm. Bsdiff is specifically taargeted to produce more efficient deltas of native libraries by taking advantage of the specific ways in which compiled native code changes between versions. To be most effective, native libraries should be stored uncompressed (compression interferes with delta algorithm "

Concerning ask expansion files, Morris further explains: "Apk expansion files allow you to include additional large files up to 2gb in size (e.g. High resolution graphics or media files) with your app, which is especially popular with games. We have recently expanded our delta and compression algorithms to apply to these Apk expansion files in addition to apks, reducing the download size of initial installs by 12% and updates by 65% on average"

I see that as a breakthrough..In addition, another marvelous invention to play store includes you seeing the ACTUAL  download size of apps when UPDATING. So you no longer need  to panic about how much space and data the update will consume .

NOTE : this changes made on Google play will be rolled out gradually..so if you don't observe that now, then be patient..in few weeks, you will get yours...enjoy!

Verizon buys Yahoo for $4.83 billion

Yahoo's 22-year run as an independent company is over, marking the end of an era for one of the earliest web giants — and one of the few to maintain some level of relevance as the internet evolved.
Verizon acquired Yahoo's core business on Monday for $4.83 billion, the culmination of months of speculation about the future of the web company.
It had been widely expected that a sale deal would be the end of CEO Marissa Mayer's tenure atop the company, but in an email to employees, Mayer said she's staying.

"For me personally, I’m planning to stay. I love Yahoo, and I believe in all of you. It’s important to me to see Yahoo into its next chapter," she wrote.
"Yahoo is a company that changed the world. Now, we will continue to, with even greater scale, in combination with Verizon and AOL," she added. The text of her post can be found at the bottom of this story.
Mayer's turnaround efforts had been the subject of plenty of criticism, particularly for numerous expensive acquisitions that did little to stem a broader decline in its online advertising business.

Just how long she will remain with Verizon has already become the subject of plenty of speculation. Recode reported that Mayer will be out after the deal is officially completed.

If Mayer is pushed out, she is inline for a severance package that could be worth more than $50 million — bringing her overall compensation for her work at Yahoo to about $218 million, according to compensation analysis from Equilar.

The addition of Yahoo is Verizon's second major digital acquisition in about a year, following on its $4.4 billion purchase of AOL in May 2015. Yahoo and AOL are expected to merge some of their operations.
