Over 1,000 employees lose their jobs as Microsoft pulls out of Phone business.

All is not Well with Microsoft’s Phone business and even Microsoft knows this. Just last week the company announced 4,500 job cuts as well as its decision to sell off its feature phone business to FIH Mobile (FXCNY), a Foxconn subsidiary, and a Nokia-owned Finnish company called HMD Global for $350 million. And although Microsoft  mentioned that it’ll still support current Lumia Phones, they didn’t say anything about making any new phones.

Then this week, the latest Gartner report showed that Windows Phone sales dropped all the way from 8.27 million units sold in Q1 of 2015 to only 2.4 million units sold in Q1 of 2016.

But the not-so-pleasant news doesn’t even end there.  Today, Microsoft has announced that in addition to the 4,500 job cuts it announced last week, an additional 1,850 employees will also lose their jobs. from indication, the majority of workers who will be affected by this particular set of job cuts are from Finland, which happens to be Nokia’s base.

According to the company, this latest round of job cuts is expected to cost the company $950 million, out of which $200 million will be spent to cover the severance payments of affected employees.

Could this mean Microsoft is quitting the phone business all together?

No. According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella “We are focusing our phone efforts where we have differentiation — with enterprises that value security, manageability and our Continuum capability, and consumers who value the same..We will continue to innovate across devices and on our cloud services across all mobile platforms.”

Suffice that to mean – we’re still in the game. We’re just making all these changes to focus on the things we know how to do best.

Iran says it is capable of destroying Israel in eight minutes after testing new long-range weapon

Just weeks after Iran claimed to have successfully tested 2,000km-range missiles capable of hitting Israel, a senior military adviser, Ahmad Karimpour has boasted that the country has the capacity to 'raze the Zionist regime' using the 'abilities and equipment' Iran has at its disposal.

According to the Times of Israel, Karimpour - an adviser to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ elite unit al-Quds Force - said: 'If the Supreme Leader’s orders [are] to be executed, with the abilities and the equipment at our disposal, we will raze the Zionist regime in less than eight minutes.'
Senior military figures in the Islamic republic hailed the development of the missile earlier this month.

General Ali Abdolahi said: 'A missile with a 2,000-kilometre range was tested two weeks ago.
'We can guide this ballistic missile. It leaves the Earth's atmosphere, re-enters it and hits the target without error.'

Iran's missile tests have been criticised by the United States, Britain, France and Germany who say it violates United Nations resolutions, and they have called on the Security Council to address them.

Manchester United sacks manager Louis

Manchester United have sacked manager Louis van Gaal, according to reports – with a statement from the club expected at 1pm. The Dutchman’s departure has been widely expected following Saturday’s FA Cup win over Crystal Palace, with Sky sources understanding Jose Mourinho is set to take over as United manager.
Van Gaal left United’s team hotel in London on Sunday following their FA Cup triumph, telling Sky Sports News HQ‘s reporter “it’s over”.
United later insisted that comment was referring purely to the season being “over” rather than his reign as United boss.
However, after a meeting with employment lawyer Paul Gilroy QC at the club’s Carrington training base on Monday morning, it appears Van Gaal and United have parted company.
The former Barcelona coach arrived at around 8.45am, with Gilroy – the man who negotiated David Moyes’ severance package two years ago – following about an hour later.
